ERMA Program can Help With Owed Rent, Utilities, and Mortgage Payments

Do you need help with rent, utilities, or your mortgage?

The state of Massachusetts has recently launched a program called ERMA (Emergency Rental and Mortgage Assistance) to help families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. ERMA builds upon the RAFT (Residential Assistance For Families in Transition) program and expands eligibility to households with 80% of the Area Median Income or AMI. If you did not qualify for RAFT before, you may qualify for ERMA.

The program can pay up to $4000 based on eligibility for a period of 12 months. Social security cards are not required if unavailable. The application states “Your Federal immigration status does not impact your RAFT eligibility.” Funds can be used to pay for:

  • Past-Due Rent
  • Past-Due Mortgage Payments
  • Past-Due Utility Payments
  • Security Deposits
  • First and Last Month’s Rent

  1. This is Metro Housing responding. Where did you get the information that applications close on July 31? That is incorrect. How did you learn about this information originally?
